Bread of Life

His Fullness is Our Supply ·       There is a fullness of essential Deity, for "in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead." ·       There is a fullness of perfect manhood, for in him, bodily, that Godhead was revealed. ·       There is a fullness of atoning efficacy in his blood, for "the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from all sin." ·       There is a fullness of justifying righteousness in his life, for "there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus." ·       There is a fullness of divine prevalence in his plea, for "He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by him; seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." ·       There is a fullness of victory in his death, for through death he destroyed him that had the power of death, that is the devil. ·       There is a fullness of efficacy in his resurrection from the dea

I came across this post in John Piper’s Desiring God Blog and felt in light of my last post; having made reference to some past animosities between Arminians and Calvinists, I might include a wonderful, uncompromising endeavor on John Piper’s part to bring some harmony and appreciation to differing perspectives and positions; producing converging ideals while maintaining integrity and continuing to concede the differences; both slight and grotesque.   Piper’s regard for Chesterton, despite Chesterton’s Romanist stance, grants us all an example of tolerance and benevolence in the midst of disagreement. Tolerance is exhibited, but do not mistake this for sloppy indulgence at the expense of Piper’s Calvinistic ideology and exegesis. It is not. Rather he seems to understand Chesterton’s controversy and asserts the reason he admires Chesterton’s book Orthodoxy “ ...is that we see the world so similarly, and the Calvinism he hates is not the Calvinism I love.”  Piper supposes that Cheste

The Question, "What Is an Arminian?" Answered by a Lover of Free Grace by John Wesley

I post this excerpt from John Wesley as a reminder of days gone by where tensions between Calvinist Reformers and Arminian were less than cordial. Blood was spilled in the past which seems unintelligible given Christ command to love one another. Even today some have found it difficult to look beyond these differences. Therefore we may need to embrace more keenly point #12, that our practice of deference would be a doorway to edifying conversations.   What is an Arminian? by John Wesley 1. To say, "This man is an Arminian," has the same effect on many hearers, as to say, "This is a mad dog." It puts them into a fright at once: They run away from him with all speed and diligence; and will hardly stop, unless it be to throw a stone at the dreadful and mischievous animal. 2. The more unintelligible the word is, the better it answers the purpose. Those on whom it is fixed know not what to do: Not understanding what it means, they cannot tell what defense to make

PRAYER 2012

" A prayerless soul is a Christless soul. Prayer is the lisping of the believing infant, the shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the dying saint falling asleep in Jesus. It is the breath, the watchword, the comfort, the strength, the honour of a Christian. If thou be a child of God, thou wilt seek thy Father's face, and live in thy Father's love. Pray that this year thou mayst be holy, humble, zealous, and patient; have closer communion with Christ, and enter oftener into the banqueting-house of his love. Pray that thou mayst be an example and a blessing unto others, and that thou mayst live more to the glory of thy Master. The motto for this year must be, "Continue in prayer."" Charles Spurgeon Pray for All People - 1 Timothy 2 "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly
